When the historic Messina brewery closed in 2013, fifteen Sicilian workers formed the Cooperativa Birrificio Messina and kept it going. Since 2019 they brew Cristalli di Sale, with the remainder produced at Massafra.

An unfiltered lager finished with salt crystals from the Trapani salt pans, which lift the floral and fruity notes rather than making the beer taste salty — the declared salt content is under 0.01 g per 100 ml. Sediment is normal.
