Some families don't tell the story of Italy: they wrote it. The Marchesi Frescobaldi have cultivated Tuscany for nearly a thousand years — a story of Florence, art and land, found today in their olive oil and their Tuscan specialities.
A story that begins in the year 1000
The Frescobaldi family appears in Florence around the year 1000. First merchants and bankers — they were even treasurers of the English crown — they left their mark on the city: to them we owe one of the first bridges over the Arno, the Ponte Santa Trinita, and artistic patronage in the age of the Renaissance. Thirty generations later, the name remains inseparable from Tuscany.
Wine, then a wider Tuscan taste
From the early 14th century, the Frescobaldi produced wine and supplied it to the courts of Europe. Visionaries, they introduced to Tuscany, as early as 1855, grape varieties then unknown in the region. This winemaking heritage — made up of estates spread across the finest Tuscan terroirs — reflects a single philosophy: respect each land and express its diversity. The same demand is found in their oil.
The Laudemio: the Frescobaldi olive oil
For centuries the family has also cultivated the olive tree, on hundreds of hectares planted at altitude, between 200 and 500 metres. In autumn, the olives are harvested early, before ripeness, to capture their emerald-green colour and aromatic freshness, then pressed within hours at the estate mill, at Castello Nipozzano. Only the oil with the best organoleptic qualities is selected. The result is a lively, herbaceous and elegant oil, emblematic of the Tuscan style.
Tradition and sustainability
At Frescobaldi, respect for the land is not a slogan: the estates apply the principles of integrated and sustainable agriculture. It's the conviction that great quality can only come from a preserved environment — an idea passed down here for thirty generations.
How to enjoy it at the table
A Tuscan oil of this type is enjoyed raw: on a bruschetta, a vegetable soup (the famous ribollita), grilled meats or simple seasonal vegetables. To choose and store it well, see our olive oil guide.
