Bitter liqueur produced in Montalto Uffugo (Calabria, Italy) by Vecchio Magazzino Doganale.
The recipe dates back to 1871, when an American captain named Jefferson, shipwrecked along the Calabrian coast, found refuge at the Vecchio Magazzino Doganale and created a liqueur from local herbs and citrus. The recipe has continued to be produced at the same site ever since.
Vecchio Magazzino Doganale grows and selects its botanicals and citrus directly in Calabria: bergamot, bitter and sweet oranges, rosemary, eucalyptus and oregano, combined with further bittering herbs. Production cycle of over 11 months per bottle. Linen-filtered, no artificial colouring.
Awarded "World's Best Liqueur" and "Best Herbal" at the World Liqueur Awards 2018 (London).
